How to Set up Guest WiFi Using Netgear Nighthawk App

There are times when your guests ask to connect to your home WiFi network for logging into their social media accounts or checking their emails. And it might be considered rude to deny their request. But at the same time, you might be worried about your guests who will hog your internet bandwidth or gain access to your PC or confidential data. That’s where the guest WiFi comes in. You can use the Netgear Nighthawk app to set up a guest WiFi network.

Most of the WiFi routers enable you to configure a guest access which can be shared with your home visitors. For those who are quite unfamiliar with the term, a guest WiFi network essentially makes a separate AP (Access Point) on your router enabling your guests to access the internet but not at the cost of slowing down your main network and compromising the data. And with the Nighthawk app, creating and setting up guest WiFi takes only a few simple steps.

Here’s how to use the Netgear Nighthawk app to set up a guest WiFi network.

Download Nighthawk App

The Nighthawk app is used to set up, handle, and monitor your home wireless network. This app is provided by Netgear to make network management extremely easy. To get the job done, you first need to download and install the Netgear Nighthawk app on your device. The app is available to download for both Android and iOS devices.

Access the App

Once the application gets downloaded successfully, tap on its icon to open it. The basic home screen will display. Now, touch the guest WiFi option.

Set up a Guest Network

A list of available networks will show on the screen. Now, choose the guest WiFi network you would like to enable and set up.

Enter Security Settings

After turning on the guest WiFi, create an SSID or network name and secure password. You can even use the QR code to share WiFi. Also, select a time period of how long you like to enable the guest’s wireless network. Next, choose a security method for your network.

Save the Settings

At last, tap on the save button to put the changes into effect.

In this way, you can set up the guest WiFi network with the help of Netgear Nighthawk app.
However, most of the users come across an issue that the app is unable to detect their wireless router. This issue is caused by a lot of things such as the router is set to the AP mode. Also, chances are that your mobile device is connected to more than one network simultaneously. In this case, follow the below-given troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure that you are connected to your router’s WiFi network.
  • In case you are using a mobile device like Android or iOS, disable the LTE connection prior to connecting to your router network.
  • Make sure that your router is not using the AP mode via the advanced settings.
